Alliance for African Assistance proudly celebrated World Refugee Day 2026, honoring the courage, resilience, and contributions of refugees while raising awareness of the challenges they face. The event brought together 250 attendees, including refugee families, community leaders, partners, sponsors, and supporters to celebrate the strength and diversity of San Diego's refugee community.
We were honored to receive a World Refugee Day Proclamation from the Office of Mayor Todd Gloria and recognition from State Assembly Member LaShae Sharp-Collins. We were also privileged to welcome San Diego County Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe, who shared remarks on the importance of supporting and investing in refugees and newcomers.
The celebration featured inspiring refugee testimonials, cultural performances, and a successful silent auction. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised more than $32,000 through donations and sponsorships to support Alliance's refugee and immigrant programs.
